Another rough day for Calvin.

When Shannon and Dr. Allen first started working at this hospital it was owned by the Animals Benefit Club.  What a crazy few days (weeks, actually…) that was!  Working a clinic with no idea where to find things or how to navigate the computer system!  As crazy as it all was, Dr. Allen and Shannon were pretty giddy about the whole prospect of finally having the opportunity to run a hospital the way they always felt it should be run… and that meant, first and foremost, a clinic cat!  Calvin was a rescue from the Animals Benefit Club who was sick and needed to be quarantined here at the hospital for a few weeks and that’s all it took… we were smitten!

Calvin is pretty special… we’ve seen giant pit bulls come bolting into the hospital, snarling and dripping in saliva… charging directly toward Calvin, and all he does is lift his head as if to say “You’re going to have to do way better than that if you want to get a rise out of me…” Surprisingly, the angry, foaming dogs just seem to lose interest and walk away!  Occasionally a dog (usually a goofy puppy) will decide he wants to play and Calvin is forced to take a swat at the nose to protect his space, but all in all he’s a pretty easy going boy.  We call him our “meet and greet” cat!

Calvin loves to sit outside the exam room and wait for treats or possibly a dog’s tail to play with.  He also loves purses (especially if there are cigarettes inside!), long hair, and the opportunity to jump into a visitor’s carrier, so keep an eye on him!

With Calvin Junior... he's another story... stay tuned!
